Product Description

Another commendable detail is the end cap. JE offers two types of end caps: one is an IP65 waterproof end cap with a waterproof nut, making the entire lamp waterproof. This type of end cap is used in popular LED plant lighting tubes. The other is a screw-fixed G13 end cap suitable for environments requiring higher safety. This type has a wide range of applications, including traditional engineering renovations.

The anodizing treatment of the LED T8 heat sink is also noteworthy. Anodizing creates an electrically insulating surface and improves heat dissipation performance. Exposed aluminum heat sinks oxidize over time, reducing their emissivity, while anodizing effectively solves this problem. If you have any needs, please feel free to contact us.

Products Introduction

The LED T8 heat sink(JE-231) can be manufactured not only as a standard G13 tube but also as a waterproof tube, making it suitable for a wide range of projects with increasing demand. Let's take a look at its specific advantages:

● Material: 6063-T5 aluminum alloy – this is the industry standard for thermal conductivity, and JE uses a high-purity extrusion molding process.

● Design: Plastic-clad aluminum structure maximizes surface area while preventing dust accumulation. I've seen too many enclosed radiators accumulating dust in kitchen environments.

● Available Lengths: 2 feet (600 mm), 3 feet (900 mm), 4 feet (1200 mm), and 5 feet (1500 mm). Custom lengths are available for bulk orders.

● Surface Finish: Anodized silver or matte black. Anodizing not only enhances aesthetics but also improves emissivity, thus aiding in heat dissipation.

● Compatibility: Designed for standard T8 LED panels (18 mm to 25 mm wide), compatible with most existing T8 brackets or JE's own mounting clips.

FAQ

Q1. How do I know if a heat sink is actually doing its job?

You can run a simple thermocouple test on the heat sink base after the fixture has been running for an hour. Ideally, the temperature rise above ambient should be under 30°C. For a quality LED T8 heat sink, you should be able to hold your hand on it comfortably. If it’s too hot to touch, the design is either undersized or the thermal path is compromised. JE Factory provides thermal test reports on request—I always ask for them before a big order.

Q2. Can I use a JE heat sink with my existing T8 end caps and brackets?

In most cases, yes. The JE profiles are designed to match standard T8 dimensions, so they’ll fit into existing fluorescent carriers if you’re doing a ballast-bypass retrofit. For new installations, I prefer to use JE’s own mounting clips because they’re designed to maintain an air gap behind the heat sink, which improves natural convection. If you mount a heat sink flush against a ceiling, you lose about 20% of its cooling capacity.

Q3. What’s the difference between the 50mm, 60mm, and 70mm profiles?

It’s about thermal capacity. The 50mm profile is fine for standard output 2ft or 4ft tubes running at 18W to 22W. The 60mm profile is my go-to for 4ft tubes running at 24W to 32W. The 70mm profile is for high-output applications—think 5ft tubes pushing 40W or more. JE actually publishes wattage recommendations for each profile, which I appreciate because it removes the guesswork.

Q4. Do I need thermal paste between the LED board and the heat sink?

Yes, and this is non-negotiable. JE supplies thermally conductive adhesive tape or you can use a non-silicone thermal paste. The micro-gaps between the PCB and the aluminium create thermal resistance. I’ve seen installations where someone skipped this step, and within six months the LEDs were showing signs of discolouration. The LED T8 heat sink is only effective if the thermal interface is correctly managed.

Q5. Are these heat sinks suitable for outdoor use in IP65-rated fittings?

The heat sink itself is aluminium and anodised, so it won’t corrode. However, for an IP65-rated fitting, the heat sink needs to be paired with a polycarbonate or glass diffuser and proper end seals. JE offers complete IP65-ready housings that use these same heat sink profiles. If you’re building your own luminaire, just ensure the enclosure allows airflow without compromising the IP rating—usually that means a sealed optical chamber with the heat sink sitting outside the sealed area.
