JE Company manufactures waterproof nuts for LED tubes, primarily made of nylon. Nylon offers several significant advantages: firstly, its water absorption rate is only about 4%, allowing water droplets to roll off naturally and preventing penetration; secondly, nylon's waterproofing relies on its inherent water-repellent properties, unlike coated fabrics which may peel, harden, or crack over time; and finally, nylon is chemically inert and resistant to acids and alkalis, preventing rusting like ordinary carbon steel in humid or salt spray environments, making it ideal for outdoor, marine, and electroplating applications. These advantages enable the entire tube to achieve an IP65 protection rating, suitable for modern LED plant lighting and other applications requiring waterproof lighting.

Sizes of Waterproof Nuts for LED Tubes

Here's the thing. The size of the waterproof nut isn't about the nut itself. It's about your cable. You pick the nut based on your wire diameter, not the other way around.

The two most common sizes you'll run into are M12 and M16.

M12 × 1.5 — fits cables from 3 to 6.5 mm. This is your standard choice for most T5, T8, and T10 LED tubes. Thread outer diameter is 12 mm, thread length about 8.5 mm, and the wrench size is 15 mm.

M16 × 1.5 — fits cables from 4 to 8 mm. If your wire is a bit thicker, you step up to this. Thread O.D. is 16 mm, thread length 9 mm, wrench size 19 mm. Some suppliers offer a "big head" version of M16 that goes up to 10 mm cable diameter, but that's less common.

That's pretty much it for the standard stuff. There are bigger sizes like M20 and M25 for industrial fixtures, but for regular LED tube production, M12 and M16 cover almost everything.

There are also some special projects that require the use of M16 to M18 waterproof nuts because they require a larger wire diameter.

Applications

Please note the following when using:

Do not overtighten. I've seen people tighten them like they're changing a car tire, which can crack the plastic or damage the threads. Usually, hand-tightening followed by a quarter turn is sufficient. The seal comes from the rubber gasket, not the force you apply.

Also, ensure the end cap matches the nut. At JE, our T10 waterproof end caps are designed for PG7 (M12) and PG9 (M16) nuts. If you are using a single-ended tube, you will need one end cap with a nut hole and one without. If you are using a double-ended tube, you will need two end caps with holes.

One more thing—check the cable diameter before ordering. I've seen too many people choose M12 because it sounds standard, only to find their cable is 8mm and won't fit. Measure first, then order.

Anti-loosening and locking: The nylon self-locking nut uses a nylon ring embedded at the top. When the bolt is tightened, the nylon ring is compressed and deformed, generating continuous radial pressure and frictional resistance. Its anti-loosening and vibration-resistant effect is several to tens of times higher than that of ordinary nuts.

Sealing assistance: The deformed nylon ring fills the gaps in the threaded fit, providing a certain degree of moisture barrier and reducing moisture seepage along the threads.

Temperature limitations: The operating temperature is generally -50℃ to 100℃. Prolonged exposure to temperatures exceeding 120℃ will cause the nylon to soften and fail. It is also unsuitable for strong acid and alkali environments (weak acids and alkalis are fine).

Limited reusability: The nylon ring does not fully spring back after deformation. It is generally recommended to reuse it no more than 3-5 times. Further reuse will reduce the anti-loosening and sealing effects.
