Hey, I’m one of the R&D engineers at JE, and today I want to share a real project story from Busan, South Korea. It’s about an indoor plant farm that switched to our IP65 LED T8 housings—and honestly, the long-term performance impressed even us.
This plant farm grows leafy greens, herbs, and high-value crops like strawberries all year round. The entire facility operates in a controlled indoor environment with vertical growing shelves, automated irrigation systems, and continuous LED lighting.
But as many growers know, humidity inside indoor farms can become a serious challenge. Relative humidity often stays between 70% and 90%, and water mist or splashes are common during irrigation. Standard T8 tubes usually fail quickly in these conditions because moisture enters the housing, causing corrosion, short circuits, and driver failure.
Our LED T8 housing is designed specifically for harsh and high-humidity environments. The housing achieves IP66 protection, meaning it is completely dust-tight and resistant to powerful water jets. In practical terms, the lamps can easily withstand daily cleaning and moisture exposure inside the plant farm.
We also use high-quality polycarbonate (PC) material with UV stabilizers. This is especially important because many plant farms use supplemental UV lighting for crop growth. Ordinary plastic housings often become yellow and brittle after prolonged UV exposure, while our material remains clear, durable, and stable for years.
Thermal management is another major advantage. LED chips naturally generate heat during operation, and poor heat dissipation can significantly reduce LED lifespan. Our housing design includes optimized thermal channels that help transfer heat away from the LEDs while still maintaining waterproof protection.
By controlling junction temperature effectively, the LEDs experience lower lumen decay and maintain stable brightness over time. In continuous testing, our housings successfully supported over 50,000 hours of operation, with the LEDs still maintaining approximately 90% of their original light output.
One thing we often hear from farm operators is that unexpected lighting failure creates serious operational problems. If lighting suddenly fails during a crop cycle, plant growth becomes uneven, product quality declines, and harvest schedules can be disrupted.
Stability is exactly what this Busan customer needed. The farm installed approximately 200 LED tubes using our waterproof housings on one growing shelf area and operated them continuously for 18 months. The lights run around 16 hours per day under humidity levels averaging 85%.
During a recent follow-up inspection, the results were extremely positive:
The farm manager even told us: “I actually forgot these are waterproof housings. They just work.” For our engineering team, that kind of feedback means everything.
Electrical safety is another important factor in indoor agriculture. In high-humidity environments, leakage current and insulation failure can become real risks.
Our LED T8 housing uses reinforced insulation structures together with sealed end caps and silicone gaskets. This design helps prevent moisture intrusion and improves operational safety over long periods of use.
According to the customer, the farm’s electrical system has not experienced any lighting-related trips or failures since installation. That level of reliability gives operators valuable peace of mind for daily production.
JE is a professional factory specializing in the production of LED T8 housings and related LED lighting accessories. We focus on providing reliable, durable, and customized solutions for industrial, agricultural, and commercial lighting applications.
