As a manufacturer specializing in the production of LED fly killer light housings, our company has always paid close attention to the working principles of LED fly killer lights. LED fly killer lights use a specific wavelength of UV light (365nm) to attract phototactic flying insects. These insects are then electrocuted or captured in sticky traps. This physical insect control tool is widely used in homes, restaurants, food processing plants, supermarkets, and other places. The following is a detailed explanation of how LED fly killer lights work:
The working principle of LED fly killer lights can be divided into two main steps: "attraction" and "killing."
1. Trapping Principle:
Exploiting insects' phototaxis to UV light: Many flying insects, such as flies, moths, and mosquitoes, have compound eyes that are particularly sensitive to specific wavelengths of ultraviolet light. In nature, they use ultraviolet light for navigation. The ultraviolet light emitted by fly killers, with a wavelength of approximately 365nm, mimics this natural signal and is extremely attractive to insects, far exceeding the attraction of ordinary light. The LED fly killer light housing produced by JE can efficiently pass UV-A365nm light and at the same time achieve the effect of resisting UV yellowing.
2. Fly Killing/Trapping Principle:
Once insects are attracted to the light, fly killers use two main methods:
Electric shock: A high-voltage electrical grid is installed inside or around the lamp tube. When insects come into contact with the electric grid, they are instantly electrocuted. Advantages: Instant fly control. Disadvantages: A slight crackling sound and an odor similar to burnt protein may be emitted, and insect fragments may be scattered, making them unsuitable for environments with high hygiene requirements.
Sticky insect boards: Replaceable sticky insect boards are placed under a light. Flying insects are attracted to the light and land on the sticky boards, where they become firmly stuck and eventually die. Advantages: Quiet, odorless, and without the scattering of insect carcasses, making them more hygienic and civilized. This is the mainstream method recommended by the food and beverage industry.
Disadvantages: Sticky insect boards require regular replacement.
