In traffic track lighting, the selection of LED tube housing materials is directly related to the safety, durability, maintenance cost and long-term performance of the lamps. Due to the harsh characteristics of the track environment, such as frequent vibration, high humidity, high dust, chemical corrosion (such as exhaust gas in tunnels, deicing salt spray), and large temperature fluctuations, special requirements are placed on the shell materials. The following are key requirements and key considerations for material selection:
1. Application scenario priority:
Tunnel/high temperature/high power: aluminum alloy (heat dissipation core) > high heat-resistant plastic (such as PC+GF).
Platform/station hall/channel: high-strength flame-retardant engineering plastics (PC/PC+GF) or aluminum alloys are both acceptable, comprehensive cost, weight, and design selection.
High corrosion area: stainless steel > high-quality anodized aluminum > special chemical-resistant plastics.
2. Heat dissipation design matching: the plastic shell must be integrated with an efficient metal radiator; the aluminum alloy shell itself is the heat dissipation body.
3. Life cycle cost: Consider initial cost + maintenance cost (replacement frequency) + energy cost (heat dissipation affects light efficiency). Long-life, maintenance-free, high-quality materials (such as good PC or aluminum) are more economical in the long run.
4. Certification and compliance: Materials must provide test reports that comply with rail transit-related standards (such as EN 45545 fire protection, IEC/EN environmental testing).
5. Supply chain reliability: Ensure that the source of materials is stable and the quality is consistent to meet the needs of large-scale projects.
In transportation track lighting, flame-retardant modified polycarbonate (PC) and aluminum alloy are the two mainstream and reliable choices for LED lamp housings:
PC-based materials are lightweight, highly impact-resistant, good electrical insulation, flexible design, and cost-controllable. They are the preferred choice for most indoor and semi-outdoor areas (station halls, platforms, and passages), but the heat dissipation design must be in place.
Aluminum alloy has excellent heat dissipation, ultra-high strength, natural fire resistance, and excellent weather resistance. It is the first choice for tunnels, high-temperature environments, high-power lamps, and EMC-sensitive areas, but the cost and weight are slightly higher.
The final material selection needs to be closely combined with the environmental severity, heat dissipation requirements, safety level, budget and maintenance strategy of the specific application location for comprehensive judgment, and high-quality, special materials that have passed the strict certification of rail transit are preferred.
