Analysis on the formation mechanism of spot corrosion of LED aluminum profiles

2023-10-03

6063 is an Al-Mg-Si alloy, and Mg2Si is the only aging strengthening phase. In order to improve the strength of LED aluminum profile alloys, the Si element content is often excessive during production, and free Si and FeSiAl phase particles are formed from the excess Si. These particles occur when the LED aluminum profile extrusion process is improper and the heat treatment is not standardized. It may cause segregation (or segregation) at the grain boundary together with FeAl3 and Mg2Si particles, which constitutes the source of pitting corrosion for LED aluminum profiles. According to the corrosion theory, the anode aluminum around the cathode particles will corrode preferentially, and the generated Al3+ will move toward the cathode. Diffusion, and the OH- in the solution diffuses toward the anode, and eventually white flocculent Al(OH)3 precipitates at the interface of the cathode and anode, and forms white spots on the surface of the aluminum material after drying. This is called spot corrosion. The corresponding chemical equation is as follows:

Al→Al3++3e (anode)

Al3++3OH-→Al(OH)3↓(cathode)
