Properties of PC extrusion raw materials

1. Physical and chemical properties

Pure FC resin is an amorphous, tasteless, odorless, non-toxic, transparent thermoplastic polymer with a molecular weight in the range of 20,000~70,000, a relative density of 1.18~1.20, a glass transition temperature of 140~150°C, and a melting range of 220~ 230°C. Polycarbonate has a certain chemical resistance and excellent oil resistance.

Due to the non-crystalline nature of polycarbonate, the intermolecular packing is not dense enough, and aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbon organic solvents can make it swell or dissolve, which is easy to cause solvent cracking. Alkali resistance is poor.

2. Mechanical properties

Polycarbonate has excellent mechanical properties, especially its impact strength and dimensional stability. It is difficult to maintain high mechanical strength in a wide temperature range. Its disadvantages are poor fatigue resistance and wear resistance. prone to stress cracking.

1) Impact strength: The impact strength of polycarbonate is very prominent among general engineering plastics and even all thermoplastic linings, and its number is similar to that of 45% glass fiber reinforced polyester FET. The main factors affecting the impact strength of polycarbonate are molecular weight, notch radius, temperature and additives.

2) Deformation resistance: The creep resistance of polycarbonate is quite good among thermoplastic engineering plastics, even better than nylon and polyoxymethylene, and the dimensional change and cold flow deformation caused by water are very small. This is an important sign of its excellent dimensional stability.

3) Fatigue strength: Polycarbonate has poor ability to resist cyclic stress.

4) Friction and wear resistance: Compared with other engineering plastics, polycarbonate has a larger friction coefficient and poor wear resistance

3. Thermal performance

Among general engineering plastics, polycarbonate has relatively good heat resistance, its decomposition temperature is above 300°C, and its long-term working temperature can reach 120°C; at the same time, it has good cold resistance, and its embrittlement temperature is as low as - 100°C: Its long-term use temperature range is 60~120°C

4. Electrical properties

Polycarbonate has low molecular polarity, high glass transition temperature, and low water absorption, so it has excellent electrical insulation properties, which are close to or equivalent to PET, which has always been considered to have excellent electrical insulation properties. The electrical insulation of polycarbonate is closely related to temperature, humidity, electric field frequency and product thickness.

5. Aging resistance and flame resistance

The heat aging resistance of polycarbonate is also quite good. If its film is placed in the air and heated for a long time, its performance will change little. However, if the polycarbonate is exposed to sunlight, oxygen, and water vapor for a long time, especially with high temperature, and contains certain impurities, it will cause degradation. Polycarbonate is flammable, the flame is light yellow and black smoke; the oxygen index is only 25%, and it will extinguish itself when it leaves the fire. Generally, halides, antimony trioxide, magnesium hydroxide, phosphoric acid and red phosphorus are added to improve the flame retardancy.

6. Optical properties

Polycarbonate is an amorphous substance. Pure polycarbonate is colorless and transparent, and has good light transmission. Because of its poor surface hardness, poor wear resistance, and easy hair on the surface, it affects its light transmission.
